Why have a social media calendar?
By having a social media calendar, it allows you to stay on track, so you don’t stray from your purpose and message. It also ensures that you keep up the quality of your content so you’re not panicking and then posting anything, just so you’re getting anything out.
How to plan
Firstly, work out what you want to post. What do you want to gain out of your posts?
Think of ticking one of these 3 boxes with your posts:
• Educate
• Entertain
• Inspire
Secondly, identify how often you want to post. Remember sometimes less is more, the last thing you want to do is over post. (Keep an eye on our next blog which will focus on how much you should be posting on each channel). Use a calendar to plot when and what you want to post on what days.
What channels do you want to post on? Think of where your audience is? Are you B2B or B2C? Don’t waste time creating content for Twitter for example if your audience isn’t going to be on Twitter.
Finally, go and create your content.
• Remember who you’re trying to speak to and speak in their language
• Keep it visual with photos and videos
• Don’t over complicate it
• Keep the caption short and sweet
• Always remember to add a call to action
